Funded Solar Projects Will Boost Energy Efficiency

According to Forbes, A slew of projects worth $60 million is set to come on stream according to announcements made by the U.S. Department of Energy. The objective of the projects is to make solar electricity more affordable. The projects will include engineering new solar cells and also finding more efficient ways of installing, marketing and monitoring solar energy projects.

Of the $60 million allotted for the project, Sun Number in Minnesota will get $1 million to gather and analyze information regarding materials and age of roofs, as well as each home’s energy history. This data will help solar companies to determine the best solar energy system designs for the different types of roofs.

The National Renewable Energy Laboratory is slated to receive $4.5 million to devise revolutionary methods of creating cadmium -telluride films. First Solar, a company that manufactures thin films will also be partnering with the laboratory in this project. This project is expected to boost efficiency significantly.
